The breeds used to create a genetic basis for this project were:
Hens and a rooster from a Swiss/German line Red-Shouldered Yokohama of show quality with long saddles, excellent feather structure with multiple feathering, extremely sound and healthy, very small and firm cushion-type walnut comb - finely textured. Completely devoid of wattles or lobes.
A female mahogany-shouldered Akasaza Satsumadori, of the lighter, more elegant type. Very small pea combed, powerful and healthy, productive line.
A male Brasilieros in the hot-orange brown, upright in stance, medium size pea comb, blue-grey underplumage.
The genetic combination was for: Minohiki / Yokohama style and feathering but more of an upright, oriental gamefowl stance, and the colouration called Shojo (Scarlet Bamboo) in Japan.
We decided to let a few of our Shojo stock go to trusted breeders in Holland, to expand the breeding base and to ensure a future for these fabulous birds. Jan, Wanda, little Arvid and even smaller Yrsa Florr of Arnhem, NL have our only second group. We should also be placing another group with Tamás Molnár in Hungary.
This line has been completely reinvigorated and is strong, healthy and unproblematic. We have purposefully not molly-coddled the last four generations and have arrived at a disease-resistant strain that has the power and majesty of the gamefowl-type Minohiki that we personally like the best.
See at the bottom of this page for our latest generation of "CASAROCCA STRAIN" of Minohiki.
